EARMA Digital Conference


The European Association of Research Managers and Administrators is pleased to announce that we are hosting a very special EARMA Digital Conference in October 2020. This four-afternoon event will bring you the most relevant discussion in research management and administration today. 

Featuring a variety of guest speakers and experts, this online gathering will look at the hot topics in our field and we want attendees to participate as much as they can throughout. This event will provide an interactive space for you to share your insights so that we can grow together as one EARMA community.

Flexibility will be key for this conference so attendees will receive all video presentations and slides in advance of the live event to review when it is convenient for you. During each session, we will have short presentations with our experts, followed by panel discussions with key stakeholders sharing their thoughts on the topic of the day, Q&A sessions where we want you to probe our guests, and networking groups so you can can debate and provide your insights with colleagues.

During the last few years, Open Science has shown itself to be an important transformative approach to nearly all parts of the scientific process. Facilitating how projects are designed and performed, how results and data are shared and how society is involved according to open science standards are already central tasks for most RMAs. In this session, we take stock of how far the process of open science has come. Has the tide turned? Is Open Science about to become the new normal?

Living the project life cycle

Friday, October 2, 2020, 14:00 – 16:30 (CEST)

This session will reflect on the project lifecycle and explore how pre-and post-award services can or should be interconnected. It will feature key elements from the project lifecycle and aim to connect them to create a synergy to benefit the individual researcher and the whole system. Such topics as pre-award strategy, portfolio management, project management, financial reporting and audit will be discussed.

Supporting researchers and building the ideal Research Support Office

– Professional and office development in research administration

Monday, October 5, 2020, 14:00 – 16:30 (CEST)

This session will discuss different experiences and cultures of Research Management and Administration all over Europe, and beyond. The gathering of RMAs coming from different working cultures and places will open up a reflection on human resources in research administration, the evolution of research support offices (RSOs) in organisational terms and, globally, the role of research management in universities. What is an ideal RSO and what makes research administration excellent?

Horizon Europe: solving the puzzle

Despite the uncertainty of the times, the launch of Horizon Europe approaches. This session will reflect on the state of play just after the R&I days of the European Commission and seek to solve the puzzle of Horizon Europe. How should we as research managers and administrators deal with the input and experience we have been able to gather up to this point?
